It's been a long, cold winter but believe it or not, spring fishing is just around the corner. Steelhead fishing should be great this season. We've got a great snow pack and should have a nice runoff period. The rivers will blow out for a while when it does get warm, but overall the high water levels will be good for all lakes and rivers. Lake Superior has returned to its historically average level, which is great news. Who knows when ice out will be this year, but whenever it happens, the fishing will be good for all species. The inland rivers opened yesterday for the early catch and release trout season, although finding some open water to fish is pretty tough yet. For those who do brave the cold, small nymphs (size 14-16) fished low and slow will be the key. Once it does warm up, the Little Black Stoneflys will be crawling around, and the fishing will heat up.
