Smallmouth guide trips have started and it's nice to see these special fish again after a long, long winter. Fish slow presentations in pockets of warmer water, and you'll find some fish. The takes have been super subtle, but the fish seem to have wintered really nicely and are fat and happy.
Trout and Salmon have been cooperating nicely for the shallow trollers around the mud lines and breaks. Early mornings have been good, and it pays to cover some water to find the warmer pockets. I've seen everything from 31.9 degrees to the high 30's and a few areas of 40 degrees. Finding the warmer areas and an area free of any ice obstruction is the ticket.
Smelting season is pretty much over around here.
